Walden University: Personal GAME Plan

For this assignment I was to choose 2 standards from the National Educational Technology Standards which I feel either confident in or not and set an action plan based on the GAME Plan listed in the textbook Technology Integration for Meaningful Classroom Use (Cennamo, Ross & Ertmer, 2009). I chose two standards which I feel confident in and try to incorporate into my own lessons.
Standards:
1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
b. "engage student in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources" (NETS.T)

2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
b. "develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning and assessing their own progress" (NETS.T)

1. I feel I can achieve these goals by identifying lessons which coincide with content and curriculum and incorporate current issues. By varying my lessons to incorporate technology and allowing students to present their findings using whatever form of technology they feel comfortable using the students will have to show creativity and knowledge.
2. Monitoring my progress means reflecting on my lessons and the technology I plan to use. It also means observing and guiding my students through the projects with hints and guided questions.
3. Evaluations for me in a continued process which takes place through the entire project. Everything from clarity in my objectives to the information presented to the final outcome for the students should be evaluated either formally or informally. By keeping clear notes on the entire process it will be easier to incorporate new materials and change the lesson for future use.

  1. Laura, I bet your students would soar using technology with foreign languages! I know there are many sites which will translate for them and they could access those to find meaning for their presentations. Also, that will give you an easier way to evaluate them on pronunciation and grammar. Keep me posted!

  2. Laura,
I totally agree with your view that by incorporating technology and allowing students to present their findings using whatever form of technology they feel comfortable using, the students will have to show creativity and knowledge. One thing I wonder is would you give them an option of two or three technology choices, or totally leave it up to them? I think that some students might choose the same type of technology that fits in their comfort zone, and not experiment with others. What do you think??

  3. Hi Marie,
Thanks for the post! My students love to use technology and at times misuse the online translators by typing everything in English and then pushing a button for the translation, they don't think of it as cheating. I guess that comes with the territory we just have to get more creative in our lessons or in our monitoring, I have resorted to having them start writing projects in class and asking for rough drafts so I can get an idea of what they truly know how to do.

  4. Hi Judy,
Thanks for the post! I usually give my students the opportunity to use whatever media they want to show their understanding. You are right I get a lot of PowerPoint presentations but I also get some other creative ideas (videos, posters etc). I try to give them ideas other than PowerPoint but they always revert to what they feel comfortable with.
